Hope School is a special school focused on abilities and dedicated to preparing students with special needs for lives of purpose, quality, contribution, and independence. Hope is a public school that houses a junior high, senior high, and an adult transition program. Recognized as an innovative and unique school for students with disabilities, Hope School draws students from the entire attendance area of the Anaheim Union High School District, as well as surrounding school districts. Many students that were unable to receive educational services in their home district and students that were in a county program are welcomed at Hope School.

Hope School’s enrollment last year consisted of about 223 students with individualized education plans, along with the support of 23 special educators, 100 instructional assistants, 2 speech and language pathologists, 1 speech and language assistant, 2.5 adaptive physical education specialists, 1 registered nurse, 1 licensed vocational nurse, 1 school psychologist, and 1 occupational therapist, 2 sign language interpreters and a deaf and hard of hearing instructional assistant; demonstrating a high concentration of specialists.  The unique learning environment of Hope School accelerates growth and fosters success.  Students are encouraged to be as independent as possible while attending 6 class periods a day.  Depending on the student’s needs, individuals could transition from 2-6 different classes in a day.  Many families feel that the departmentalized model at Hope School is less restrictive and increases student engagement, generalization of skills, increased socialization among peers, and are exposed to more diverse materials/resources, strategies, and teaching methods.  Parents are also empowered through the use of the variety of free materials in the Hope School Family Resource Center and educational workshops on such topics as behavior plans and conservatorship.

Curriculum

All Hope students participate in a comprehensive curriculum that encourages and supports students to be as independent as possible, while incorporating essential skills that will have a significant impact in our students' adult life in the areas of behavior, communication, and toileting.
